Women’s Basketball Recap: Oregon vs Nebraska
The Oregon Ducks women’s basketball team suffered a heartbreaking 94-90 overtime loss to the Nebraska Cornhuskers in a Big Ten clash on Wednesday. Despite leading by as many as 14 points in the third quarter, the Ducks couldn’t hold off a furious Nebraska comeback, led by Center Alexis Markowski, who dropped a career high 35(!) points.
The game was a rollercoaster from the start, with both teams trading runs throughout. The Ducks jumped out to an early 10-0 lead, but Nebraska battled back through multiple lead changes to take a slight lead at halftime, 40-39. The Ducks then surged ahead again in the third quarter, appearing to be in complete control. However, the fourth quarter saw a dramatic shift in momentum as Nebraska chipped away at the lead, eventually tying the game on a Markowski three-pointer with under 30 seconds remaining, negating a clutch three-pointer by Oregon guard Nani Falatea just nine seconds earlier. Oregon would get a chance to win the game in regulation, but a corner three from Peyton Scott was just a little too long, sending the game to overtime.
In overtime, the Cornhuskers nailed 4 threes, scoring 13 total points in the period, while holding Oregon to just 9, and handing the Ducks a 94-90 loss.
Despite the loss, Oregon had several strong individual performances. Deja Kelly scored 22 points with 6 assists, while Nani Falatea and Phillipina Kyei added 20 and 16 points, respectively, with Kyei also grabbing 9 rebounds.
Oregon will look to bounce back in their next game against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights on Sunday, February 23rd.
As always, ‘Sco Ducks.
