Watch Scoot Henderson Summer Workout Video Here
Like most NBA players, Portland Trail Blazers guard Scoot Henderson is getting in plenty of work during the off-season. Yesterday workout trainer Chris Johnson’s YouTube channel posted video of Henderson going through multiple halfcourt offense drills. You can see the footage through the link or in the embed below.
The 20-minute video begins with Henderson working options as the ball-handler in the pick-and-roll. Johnson talks about taking a line to the hoop, reading the defense, and drills Henderson in absorbing (or creating) defensive contact then either spinning or fading away for a shot. These exercises involve balance, footwork, and spacing.
It’s interesting to watch Henderson work against non-NBA workout partners. You get an immediate sense of how bulky and athletic he is. The instructions to bump, get leverage, and then move to open territory while the defender is recovering make total sense given Scoot’s frame.
The second half of the video is consumed with a summer staple: three-point drills. These are always fun to watch but hard to draw conclusions from, since defensive pressure is absent from the equation. Two things do stand out. First, Henderson’s release is much quicker and smoother than it was when he first entered the league. Second, the video is honest, showing Scoot’s misses and not just his makes. Bravo.
Overall the video is a good watch if you’ve ever wondered about the details that go into drill work as a professional player.
