With an 8am PST start on a Monday after a long weekend series with Maryland, it would have been understandable if Oregon Baseball was a tad sluggish.
However, they looked anything but as Carter Garate and Mason Neville each recorded a grand slam and Ian Umlandt turned in a great pitching performance in seven innings in a 12-1 victory for the No. 16 Ducks.
The Ducks tallied seven hits on the day but were seeing the ball well, drawing 11 walks and reaching on a pair of hit by pitches. Five of the Ducks’ seven hits went for extra bases.
Neville went 2-for-3 at the player with a double, a grand slam, two walks and four RBI as the leadoff man, while Garate went 2-for-3 with five RBI and three runs in the nine-hole spot.
Umlandt put together a dominant outing on the mound, allowing one run on four hits while striking out six against just two walks. 61 of his 97 pitches went for strikes as he earned his fourth win of the season.
After spending the whole weekend 3,000 miles from home, the Ducks return to the familiarity of PK Park for their next series with old Pac-12 foe UCLA.
