Arz Café’s baklava, persistently crisp and glossy with orange blossom syrup.

Well-stocked with bakeries and bubble tea cafés, Beaverton is full of places to find something sweet. And like its restaurant scene, the dessert landscape benefits from the suburb’s cultural and culinary diversity.

Why settle for a basic scoop of strawberry ice cream when you could eat soursop sorbet? Below, a rapid-fire tour of the area’s best places to sate your sweet tooth.

Arz Café: In his SW Murray Boulevard Lebanese bakery, Abbas Idris stacks 40 layers of phyllo dough for his baklava, each persistently crisp and glossy with orange blossom syrup. Find them among pastry nests overflowing with pistachios and rose-shaped chocolates filled with decadent lotus caramel.

Ome Calli: Paletas! Chamoyadas! Gelatinas! Ice cream is far from the only thing at this SW Canyon Road Mexican sweet shop, but the intimidating array of flavors—guava to soursop, cotija to chocolate chipotle—makes a great counterbalance for the frozen pops, sweet-spicy shave ice drinks, and jewel-tone cups of Jell-O.

Oyatsupan: At this Japanese bakery in Five Oaks, grab some tongs and pick out pastries from self-serve cubbies filled with red bean buns and cinnamon roll–like croissants. Don’t blow past the cold case up front (or its pretty-as-can-be strawberry cream cake).
