Below is a 1918 blueprint plan for The Cedars Women’s Detention Home, a City of Portland facility established in Troutdale just north of Edgefield as a “refuge for diseased women.” The Portland City Archives is excited to announce its new exhibitHygiene Hysteria: Patrolling Women’s Health and Morals. The exhibit highlights ordinances, resolutions, reports, and correspondence that provides insight into the perspectives of City leaders of the time that led to the creation of the Cedars detention facility.
