For how compact Portland can appear compared to other metropolitans, the southeast Buckman neighborhood in particular feels like an urban sprawl. It’s unlike Portland hot spots like the Alphabet District, East 28th Street, and Alberta Arts District, in which most businesses can be found along a central walking street; you may have to hop around various pockets throughout Buckman to find what you’re looking for.

However, don’t let this deter you, as some may argue that it has the densest array of destination-worthy eateries in the city. Buckman’s historical industrial roots have fostered long-standing beverage institutions like Steven Smith Teamaker, Wayfinder Beer, and Westward Whiskey; food brands have since followed suit. To this day, new eateries, cocktail bars, and food carts regularly cycle through the area, while others have solidified themselves as stalwarts of the neighborhood.
