The Best Chinese Food in Portland, Oregon
Waz Wu
Chinese takeout is a classic for a reason: chewy noodles, bright stir-fries, and soothing soups comprise just a small segment of the vast and complex cuisine. In the last few years, a mixture of small family-run restaurants and big Asian chains have stirred up Portland’s Chinese food scene, creating tons of exciting options for diners in town and expanding the variety of what’s available. The arrival of big players like Din Tai Fung and Dough Zone signal a growing desire for Chinese food here, and an inevitable influx of regional Chinese cuisines.
We have a map specifically devoted to dumplings, this one is more of a sampler platter of steamy hotpot, plump xiao long bao, and abundant dim sum piping hot from the kitchen. As always, this map is organized geographically, not ranked. If you know of any restaurant that should be on our radar, please email us at pdx@eater.com.
For the latest update, in May 2025, we took off XLB and Jong Can, which have sadly closed, and noted that Jade Rabbit has moved to a new location.
