SW 2nd Ave & Oak St, 1939 ca.
View of SW 2nd Ave looking north toward Oak St. A part of Portland’s Chinatown, the area features Chinese-owned businesses such as Fook Hang Lung Company and Yee Sand Tank Company.
This area has long served as a hub for Chinese businesses and services. In 1890 a petition was submitted by Chinese residents to erect a flag pole outside the East side of 2nd Ave between Stark and Oak to signify the operation of a Chinese Hospital, Bo Long Kong Sue Company. You can read the full petition on Efiles here (Portland City Archives, AD/10071).
