Sixers May Be Looking to Swap with Spurs in 2025 NBA Draft
The Philadelphia 76ers may be looking to swap spots with the San Antonio Spurs in the 2025 NBA Draft. Philadelphia is scheduled to pick third overall in the proceedings, San Antonio second after both got fortunate bounces in the Draft Lottery in May. According to Michael Scotto, citing league sources, Philly may be looking to move up one spot. He posted the following on BlueSky:
Sources: The 76ers have engaged with the Spurs about potentially moving up to the No. 2 pick. For now, the Sixers have zeroed in on four NBA Draft prospects with the No. 3 pick, including a private workout last week with VJ Edgecombe and Ace Bailey visiting Philadelphia next week.
It’s possible that Bailey and Edgecombe would be candidates if the Sixers remain in their current position. The presumed second-overall pick is Rutgers point guard Dylan Harper. That would be an interesting selection for Philly, though, as they already employ Tyrese Maxey, a 24-year-old All-Star, at the point guard position. Maxey led the Sixers in scoring last season with 26.3 points per game.
Could Philadelphia be looking at a two-point-guard lineup, with the 6’6 Harper joining 6’2 Maxey and sharing ball-handling duties? Or could the Sixers be looking to trade Maxey? Or is another player catching Philadelphia General Manager Daryl Morey’s eye, a rising player he fears the Spurs might nab just in front of him?
It’s always odd when teams move up a single position in the draft. In this case, it’d be a fairly major feat. Stay tuned to see if anything develops.
