Rockets Trade for Kevin Durant Expands to Include NBA-Record 7 Teams

The Houston Rockets and Phoenix Suns agreed on a blockbuster trade that sent 15-time NBA All-Star Kevin Durant to Houston back on June 22. With the NBA moratorium period ending on Sunday, that trade has been officially expanded to include five other teams, making it the first ever seven-team trade in NBA history according to ESPN’s Tim Bontemps (No, your Portland Trail Blazers were not involved).

All told, the deal involved the Rockets, Atlanta Hawks, Brooklyn Nets, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers, Minnesota Timberwolves and Phoenix Suns. Six players (Durant, Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, Clint Capela, David Roddy and Daeqwon Plowden), one first-round draft pick (the No. 10 selection last month, used by Phoenix via Houston as part of the Durant deal to select center Khaman Maluach) and 12 second-round picks were also moved. In addition, Houston made a second-round pick swap with the Hawks and sent them cash considerations.

The initial swap had Durant heading to the Rockets in exchange for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft (Khaman Maluach) and five second-round picks.

After a flurry of trades on draft night that saw many of those assets go to new teams, the final deal had to be expanded to include all of those organizations. The seven-team deal also includes the sign-and-trade that brought center Clint Capela back to Houston from the Atlanta Hawks and will send forward David Roddy to the Hawks in exchange.

Despite all the new teams, players and picks intertwined in the deal, the centerpieces of the trade remain Durant and Houston’s package for him.
