Simmons’ Historic Performance Leads Ducks Past Stetson

Oregon junior Anna Simmons is off to a scorching start, scoring 13 goals in just two games, including a record-tying seven in Tuesday’s dominant 17-7 victory over Stetson at Papé Field.

As the Ducks celebrated their win, the Big Ten Conference announced Simmons as the Midfielder of the Week—an honor earned after her six-goal performance in Friday’s season opener against Butler. Based on her latest showing, it may not be her last recognition this season.

Simmons’ seven-goal outing matched Oregon’s single-game record, a mark previously set by Jana Drummond and Hanna Hilcoff. She was a force beyond scoring, winning five draws, forcing turnovers, and controlling possession throughout the game.

Avery Young added four goals, while Bri Carrasquillo notched a hat trick, including two fourth-quarter goals to cap off a stronger finish than Oregon’s closing effort against Butler.

Simmons wasted no time, scoring just 10 seconds into the game—an even quicker start than her 12-second goal against Butler. She struck again minutes later for a 2-0 lead, but Stetson responded with two of their own. However, Simmons completed her hat trick within the first 10 minutes, and the Ducks never looked back.

She continued her dominance in the third quarter, notching another three-goal burst before tying the program record with her seventh in the fourth.

After Stetson cut the deficit to 4-3 midway through the second quarter, Oregon’s defense locked in, shutting out the Hatters for the remainder of the half. Goalkeepers Paige Crowther and Cassidy Eckert split time in the net, backed by defensive pressure that limited Stetson to just 20 shots compared to Oregon’s 40.

With a balanced attack, Oregon extended its lead behind goals from Carrasquillo, Liv Kozitza, Jenae Sperling, and Young, taking a 7-3 lead into halftime. Young completed her hat trick in the third, easing the offensive load on Simmons before the junior midfielder took over once again.

The Ducks finished strong, outscoring Stetson 4-0 in the fourth quarter—an improvement from their 2-1 fourth-quarter effort against Butler.

Oregon Stays Perfect, Cruises Past Columbia

Oregon remained undefeated with a commanding 15-7 win over Columbia on Saturday, powered by a dominant performance in the draw circle at Papé Field.

Rachel Pallo tied her own school record with 12 draw controls, helping the Ducks control possession and build a 21-4 advantage in draws—a stat that translated directly to the scoreboard.

Much like their first two games, Oregon jumped out early, locked in defensively, and built a double-digit lead that forced a running clock multiple times in the second half. By the time the Ducks led 13-3, 14-4, and 15-5, the outcome was all but decided.

Simmons led the attack once again with four goals, while Emma Ing recorded a hat trick. Bri Carrasquillo, Gabby Santucci, and Lyla Hurley each found the net twice. Goalkeeper Paige Crowther had four saves before making way for freshman Kate Shields in the fourth quarter.

With the game in hand, head coach Chelsea Drummond was able to give key minutes to younger players, including defenders Audrey Thompson and Ella Lewandowski, midfielder Hazel Baker, and attacker Reilly Cormier.

For the third straight game, Oregon scored within the first minute—this time with Carrasquillo finding the net. Less than a minute later, Ing doubled the lead, becoming the second of seven Ducks to score in the contest.

After Columbia cut the deficit to 2-1, Pallo took over in the draw circle, winning five straight to fuel a 5-3 Oregon lead by the end of the first quarter.

Simmons and Ing completed hat tricks before halftime, while Hurley, Carrasquillo, and Young all added to the offensive outburst, giving Oregon a commanding 10-3 lead at the break.

Simmons’ fourth goal made it 13-3 early in the third, and Kozitza quickly answered a Columbia goal to maintain the momentum heading into the fourth. Santucci added another goal for a 15-5 cushion before the Ducks eased off the throttle.

With three games in nine days to open the season, Oregon will now have time to rest and reset before its next matchup.

Women’s Tennis:

Ducks’ Doubles Success Not Enough Against Arizona State

Oregon women’s tennis continued its impressive doubles play on Friday, but the Ducks couldn’t hold off Arizona State in singles, falling 4-1 at the Student Tennis Center.

For the sixth time in seven matches, Oregon (5-2) secured the doubles point to start strong. The 54th-ranked duo of Tilde Jagare and Juliet Santitto stayed unbeaten this spring (4-0) and claimed their second straight ranked win, defeating No. 56 Karin Altori and Sara Svetac 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.

With ASU taking the top doubles court, the point came down to No. 3, where Avery Jennings and Julia Visaya delivered with a 6-3 victory, improving to 3-1 on the season.

Sun Devils Rally in Singles

Despite Oregon’s early momentum, Arizona State (4-2) turned the tide in singles play, winning four matches to clinch the overall victory.

Jagare and Santitto were battling into a third set when the match was decided, while Marjorie Souza and Karin Young faced tough tests at the top two spots, falling in straight sets to ASU’s 38th- and 45th-ranked players. The Sun Devils also claimed wins at No. 3 and No. 5 to secure the team victory.

Through seven matches this spring, Oregon’s doubles teams have posted an impressive 14-5 record, while singles play stands at 22-11.

Ducks Dominate in Doubleheader Sweep

The Oregon men’s tennis team put on a show Sunday at the Student Tennis Center, securing back-to-back victories over Louisiana and Eastern Illinois.

Oregon Overpowers Louisiana

The Ducks started strong against Louisiana, capturing the doubles point with commanding wins. Matthew Burton and Lenn Luemkemann, ranked No. 77, took down Samuel Kyjaci and Leonard Tramolay on court one, while Cooper Errey and Clement Lemire followed with a win on court three over Vasil Dimitrov and Calin Postea.

In singles play, Vlad Breazu set the tone with a straight-set victory over Dimitrov. Louisiana managed to get on the board when Postea defeated Burton 6-4, 6-2 on court four, but that was the only point the visitors could muster.

Zian Vanderstappen made the most of his appearance on court six, securing a win against William Jade, while Luemkemann sealed the match with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Oriol Fillat Gimenez on court one. Matches featuring Lemire and Errey remained unfinished, but the Ducks had already locked up the win.

Ducks Race Past Huskies

Oregon carried its momentum into the second match of the day, rolling past Eastern Illinois in a dominant performance.

The Ducks were in complete control in doubles, surrendering only three games across all three courts. Errey and Luemkemann cruised to a 6-0 win on court three, while freshmen Paris Pouatcha and Lemire dropped just one game in a 6-1 victory. On court one, Breazu and Lachlan Robertson secured the doubles point with a 6-2 win over Zach White and Ludolph Wiggett.

Singles play was just as lopsided, with all six Ducks earning straight-set wins and none allowing more than four games in a set. Breazu, Lemire, and Vanderstappen finished in quick succession on courts one, two, and three, followed by Robertson and Errey on courts four and five. Russell Soohoo wrapped up the match with his second career singles win on court six.

Ducks Stay Unbeaten at Home with Win Over New Mexico

Oregon continued its home dominance on Friday, defeating New Mexico 6-1 at the Student Tennis Center.

The match began with a hard-fought battle for the doubles point. After splitting the first two courts, the decider came down to court three, where Vlad Breazu and Lachlan Robertson clinched it with a 6-4 win.

Needing just three singles wins to secure the overall victory, the Ducks wasted no time. Paris Pouatcha delivered a commanding 6-2, 6-2 sweep on court three, while fellow freshman Clement Lemire followed up with a 7-6(5), 6-2 win on court four. The clinching point came from Lenn Luemkemann on court one, earning a 7-5, 6-3 victory.

With the match in hand, Oregon played out the remaining contests. Breazu took a 6-4, 7-6(3) win, while Zian Vanderstappen closed things out with a 7-6(5), 6-4 victory on court six.

With the win, the Ducks remain perfect at home as they gear up for their upcoming road stretch.
