Portland’s KUNP Becomes Rip City Network on January 1st
The Portland Trail Blazers officially announced that KUNP will become the team’s flagship network starting Wednesday, January 1st. The Sinclair-owned KUNP, available on channel 16 or 47 depending on your provider, will show all Blazers games that are not exclusive to national television. KUNP has transmission towers in both Portland and La Grande, Oregon. The team gives details in their press release.
Beginning January 1, Rip City will have even more ways to access Trail Blazers games as KUNP within the Portland Market will officially be the Portland flagship station of the Rip City TV Network. The station will air all local and non-exclusive nationally televised games as well as pre and postgame coverage, episodes of the Emmy-Award winning team docuseries – The Trail, and more Trail Blazers content.
The Blazers will still be available on CHARGE 2.2 in the Portland area, so your current habits don’t need to change. Both networks will simulcast game coverage in high definition.
This also gives the Blazers a larger foothold over the viewing options in the Pacific Northwest, as KUNP has a wider distribution range. For those who could not find CHARGE 2.2 on your cable systems, KUNP may be available. Check your guide for Blazers coverage. If you’re outside of Portland or the La Grande area, your viewing options will not change; those areas are still broadcasting on low-quality TBD-TV affiliates.
The Blazers and KUNP kick off coverage on the 1st with a marathon of classic Blazers games from various eras. Here’s the lineup that will loop through the day, and continue until the Blazers pick up action on January 2nd:
Until the end of 2024, KUNP was Portland’s Univision affiliate, but will change format at Midnight January 1st.
