Oregon Hockey: Rochester Game Recaps

The Ducks took on the Warriors of Rochester University this past weekend in Bend for the annual Bend Classic. The games were played outdoors at the Pavillion in Bend which looked like a fun atmosphere for the fans in attendance. The sightlines for the Youtube broadcast weren’t the greatest so I had a difficult time distinguishing players from one another, but that is all the more reason to attend the games in Bend in person next season.

The Ducks dominated the Warriors and won both games. 4-2 on Friday night, and then 7-2 on Saturday night. The strong majority of play took place in the Warriors zone with the Ducks peppering both Warrior goalies with plently of volume and high quality shots in both games.

Here are the team stats from Friday Night

Friday

Shots:

Oregon – 57

Rochester – 27

Total High Danger Chances:

Oregon – 20

Rochester – 6

High Danger Chances 5 on 5:

Oregon – 14

Rochester – 4

Power-play 0% (0/4)

Penalty Kill 75% (3/4)

Save Percentage George Serbin .926

The Ducks probably could have had another goal or two if it weren’t for a strong performance from Rochester’s goalie. The Ducks scored two quick goals and had a 2-0 lead for the majority of the game. In the 3rd period the Ducks were able to break things open when Mica Glass went short side to push the lead out to 3. A couple of late goals by the Warriors with less than 5 minutes left in the game made the score of this game look a lot closer then it actually was.

Saturday

Shots:

Oregon – 56

Rochester – 22

Total High Danger Chances:

Oregon – 18

Rochester – 3

High Danger Chances 5 on 5:

Oregon – 14

Rochester – 2

Power-play 29% (2/7)

Penalty Kill 83% (5/6)

Save Percentage J.P Marinaro .909

After a bad giveaway allowed Rochester to jump out to an early 1-0 lead, the Ducks quickly roared back scoring 4 goals in the first period to take a 4-2 lead into the first intermission. The Ducks were dominant in this period as well, Rochester was able to capitalize on a bad giveaway and a bad penalty taken by the Ducks to stay within striking distance. The Ducks continued dominating the rest of the game to win by a comfortable 7-2 margin, including two Power-play goals to extend the lead and leave no doubt for this game.

The Ducks are back on the ice next weekend when they travel to Maryville university for 3 games at the Maryville invitational with an opportunity to move above .500 for the first time at the ACHA Division 1 level.
