Oregon Ducks Women’s Basketball Transfer Comparisons

Oregon Ducks Women’s Basketball Transfer Comparisons

Once again, we take our summer look at the women’s basketball transfers that left or joined the Ducks between the 2023-24 and 2024-25 season.

Transfers Out of Oregon –

Following the conference crash-and-burn of Oregon WBB at the end of the 23-24 season, most of the teams best players – and really, it wasn’t very many – left the Ducks to join other programs. The four players were Kennedy Basham, Priscilla Williams, Chance Gray, and Grace VanSlooten.

Kennedy Basham – Arizona State

Kennedy Basham – ASU

School GP-GS MIN/G FG% 3FG% FT% BLK PTS PTS/G REB REB/G
Oregon ’23-24 31-24 18.7 .400 .000 .588 48 138 4.5 108 3.5
ASU ’24-25 32-25 22 .429 .364 .662 83 181 5.7 209 6.9

Basham improves at Arizona State; however, it’s fair to say that the Big XII doesn’t have quite the WBB teams that the old Pac-12 had. USC and UCLA were the dominant teams in the B1G, and no one had to contend with the long shadow of Cameron Brink. Regardless, Basham showed good improvement after leaving the Ducks.

Priscilla Williams – Jacksonville University

JU ’24-25 26-24 30.9 .399 .380 .808 30 330 12.7 201 7.7

Williams benefited in moving to the ASUN conference, which does not have the caliber of players that you’ll find in the Pac-12 or B1G.

Chance Gray – Ohio State

Chance Gray

School GP-GS MIN/G FG% 3FG% FT% BLK PTS PTS/G REB REB/G
Oregon ’23-24 31-31 36.3 .347 .337 .811 1 430 13.9 91 3.5
OSU ’24-25 33-33 27.6 .398 .348 .841 3 397 12 60 1.8

Gray’s ASST/TO rate went from 1.0 to 1 at Oregon to 1.25 to 1 at OSU. She had less pressure with the Buckeyes; instead of being one of three players at Oregon scoring 400 or more points on the season (with no one else remotely close after that), she was one of five at OSU scoring 310 or more on the season – with a better bench.

Grace VanSlooten – Michigan State

Grace VanSlooten

School GP-GS MIN/G FG% 3FG% FT% BLK PTS PTS/G REB REB/G
Oregon ’23-24 31-31 35.2 .396 .069 .663 21 464 15 221 7.1
MSU ’24-25 31-23 26.4 .521 .000 .632 35 480 15.5 225 7.3

GVS also benefited from better bench support at MSU. She was the leading scorer on the team. Her ASST/TO rate went from 1.0 to 1 at Oregon to .81 to 1 at MSU. It’s interesting that MSU and Oregon had nearly identical records on the season, and both had identical results in the tournaments – both lost their first game in the B1G tourney and lost in the Round of 32 in the NCAA tournament.

Transfers In to Oregon –

Kelly Graves was forced to bring in players from the transfer portal more between the seasons than he has ever done before, and this is a trend that will continue as needed; that’s the effect of the transfer portal on all college sports. Graves brought in seven players: Nani Falatea (BYU), Deja Kelly (North Carolina), Salimatou Kourrouma ( Arizona), Ari Long (Washington), Elisa Mevius (Seina), Amina Muhammed (Texas), and Alexis Whitfield (UC Santa Barbara).

Nani Falatea only played in three games in 23-24, so that wasn’t a large enough sample size to work with. Salimatou Kourouma did not play due to injury.

Deja Kelly – North Carolina

Deja Kelly

School GP-GS MIN/G FG% 3FG% FT% BLK PTS PTS/G REB REB/G
School GP-GS MIN/G FG% 3FG% FT% BLK PTS PTS/G REB REB/G
NC ’23-24 33-33 36.1 .346 .286 .694 9 539 16.3 129 3.9
Oregon ’24-25 32-32 31.8 .386 .238 .714 3 389 12.2 139 4.3

Kelly was a known quantity when she was brought in, and for the most part she lived up to her billing. Her veteran savvy showed late in the season with her command of the floor when needed, and she came through with some big shots when it counted.

Ari Long – Washington

Ari Long

Oregon ’24-25 29-0 9.1 .351 .250 .700 4 73 2.5 40 1.4

Long was a sophomore last season. She showed flashes of a good upside, but this next season will tell the tale of what the Ducks have in Ari Long.

Elisa Mevius – Seina

Elisa Mevius

School GP-GS MIN/G FG% 3FG% FT% BLK PTS PTS/G REB REB/G
School GP-GS MIN/G FG% 3FG% FT% BLK PTS PTS/G REB REB/G
Seina ’23-24 30-30 36 .455 .276 .742 9 360 12 203 6.8
Oregon ’24-25 28-19 22.1 .442 .303 .778 0 184 6.6 80 2.9

Mevius held remarkably steady, considering she came from a small school like Seina. Her stats probably would have been even better had she not been injured part of the season. At Seina, her ASST/TO rate was 1.35 to 1, and it shot up to 1.91 to 1 with the Ducks.

Amina Muhammed – Texas

Amina Muhammed

Oregon ’24-25 32-24 19.4 .533 .000 .559 2 200 6.3 114 3.6

Muhammed’s stats remained very close in 23-24 and 24-25.

Alexis Whitfield – UC Santa Barbara

Alexis Whitfield

UCSB ’23-24 31-31 32.4 .460 .383 .710 24 469 15.1 304 9.8
Oregon ’24-25 31-9 13.8 .463 .286 .600 10 141 4.5 81 2.6

This is probably to be expected, given the player difference between the Big West and Big Ten conferences.
