Oregon Ducks Where Are They Now? – Part 2
We’re going to take a selected look at some of Oregon’s ex-head coaches. You may know what some of them are doing with their time these days, but what are others doing? Let’s revisit our exes:
Mike Bellotti

After turning over coaching duties to Chip Kelly in 2009, Bellotti was Oregon’s athletic director for one year. He then became a football analyst for ESPN and ABC and is still in that role for ESPN.
Mark Helfrich

After being let go in 2016, Helfrich spent 2017 as a Fox Sports analyst. He was hired in 2018 as the offensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears, and was let go after two seasons. Helfrich joined Fox again in 2020 and is still a football analyst for them.
Willie Taggart

We all know about Slick Willie. We all chuckled when he flamed out after a year and a half at Florida State. Taggart was then fired after three seasons with the Florida Atlantic Owls after ending his tenure there with a losing record.
Slick Willie appears to have landed on his feet, (unsurprisingly) in a position where he is not the head coach. Taggart is going into his third year with the Baltimore Ravens. He has been the running backs coach since his hire, and this year adds the position of assistant head coach.

If you have not already, check out DCU’s great statistical article on his time as Oregon’s head coach. MC is with Miami, of course, as head coach. Does it seem to you that his trajectory is similar to Oregon? It might be worthwhile to break down the numbers on that.
Chip Kelly

There is no moss under Chip Kelly’s feet. After leaving Oregon, and two failed stints in the NFL head coaching ranks, Kelly spent 2017 as an analyst for ESPN. That wasn’t really his forte, so he became UCLA’s head coach. In six seasons with UCLA, his 35-34 record barely passed .500.
CK moved on, becoming the offensive coordinator for last season’s Ohio State’s national champion team. Kelly has moved along again – Pete Carroll was hired as the New LV Raiders head coach this year and has brought Chip Kelly on board as the offensive coordinator.
