Oregon Ducks Tennis Recaps: Men vs washington Huskies, Women @ Illinois Illini and Northwestern Wildcats

Women’s Tennis

The women’s tennis team faced a double header in the Midwest, travelling to #45 Illinois and #39 Northwestern over the weekend. They fell in both meets, remaining winless in Big Ten play.

The meet against Illinois on Saturday got off to a hot start for the Ducks as victories from duos Bridget Mihulka/Karin Young and Marjorie Souza/Candela Aparisi scored Oregon the doubles point. This was the first time in conference play the Ducks went into singles matches with a lead. The momentum was quickly reversed, as the Illini quickly four matches in straight sets to end the meet. Patsy Daughters and Juliet Santitto were leading and tied, respectively, in their second matches when the meet was called at 4-1.

Oregon headed north to Evanston to take on the Wildcats on Monday and the meet went no better. Duo Bridget Mihulka/Karin Young were tied in their doubles match when it was called after Northwestern took the point with wins in the other two matches. Oregon dropped three consecutive singles matches in straight sets for a 4-0 defeat.

After a trip to east coast and four consecutive meets against ranked teams the Ducks stand at 0-6 in conference. The women have an opportunity to pick up their first Big Ten win(s) at home against unranked Indiana and Purdue this Friday and Sunday.

Men’s Tennis

After picking up their first conference victory of the season over Penn State, men’s tennis was at home on Saturday in a rivalry match against that northern school. Continuing a troubling trend for both tennis teams, the Huskies took the doubles point 2-1. This was to be decisive, as the meet was called at 4-1 while Clement Lemire and Lachlan Robertson were leading in what could have been decisive sets in their matches. With the doubles point, a path would have been open for a 4-3 Oregon victory. As it is, the men have to rebound from the loss in Los Angeles against UCLA and USC this Saturday and Sunday.
