Oregon Ducks Softball And Baseball Dominate In Game 2 Victories
Softball vs. Indiana
Game 2 against the Hoosiers saw something of a similar pitching strategy as Game 2 against UCLA last weekend. Lyndsey Grein started and pitched the first inning, followed by Staci Chambers taking the circle in the second inning.
Before Grein took the circle in the bottom of the first, the Oregon offense started rolling early. Indiana starter Jasmine Reyes had early trouble and didn’t last an entire inning, what with the Ducks pasting her with five runs. Rylee McCoy hit an RBI single for Oregon’s first run, and then runners on second and third came home with an Emma Cox double.
Kaylynn Jones got on base with a single, and a Braiesey Rosa double sent Cox and Jones home.
Oregon’s offense gave Grein a 5-0 cushion going into the bottom of the first inning, and she struck out two of the inning’s three outs.
Indiana reliever Jenae Berry pitched 1-2-3 in the second inning, followed by Chambers also striking out two in the bottom of the second inning.
Both sides went scoreless in the third inning. Elise Sokolsky come to the circle in the bottom of the inning and pitched the next 2.1 innings. In the top of the fourth inning, the Oregon bats struck again. With two on base, Kedre Luschar hit an RBI single directly at (and off of) the pitcher, and Indiana was not able to make a play on the ball.
McCoy hit a sacrifice fly to give the Ducks a 7-0 lead, and then a passed ball scored Oregon’s eighth run.
That’s where the score remained through the bottom of the fifth inning. Sokolsky walked two and the Hoosiers added a bunt single (that resulted in an out at second base), and Lyndsey Grein came back to the circle. Her second pitch was hit for a double that would give the Hoosiers their only run of the game.
That run averted the possibility of an Oregon run-rule win for the moment. That moment turned out to be fleeting, as in the top of the sixth inning Rylee McCoy hit her 15th home run of the season, setting a new record for freshman home runs in a season.
With a run-rule win back in play, Grein again struck out two in the bottom of the inning to make the 9-1 victory stick.
Here is what Emma Cox had to say after the game:
And then we hear from Rylee McCoy:
The win gives Oregon softball its eighth road game win in a row, and sets the Ducks up for a series sweep today. That will be another early game – 10:00 am PT – and will be shown on B1G+.
Baseball vs. Oregon State
After a pleasantly surprising 4-2 win against the Beavers on Friday, Oregon baseball turned in an outstanding performance yesterday in totally demolishing #3 Oregon State, 13-1.
Collin Clarke turned in perhaps his best performance of the season, pitching 6 full innings against the Beavers while allowing just four hits and one run.
Meanwhile, the Oregon bats followed the lead of their softball counterparts earlier in the day, and built up an early cushion for their starter. Their first two runs came from Dominic Hellman, batting in the number 2 spot and hitting a home run off the first pitch thrown to him.
The Ducks scored two more in the second inning for a 4-0 lead.
The Beavers left in starter Dax Whitney through the third inning, where neither side scored. After Whitney, Oregon State trotted out four relievers to varying success that would not stop the Ducks from scoring. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Oregon struck again, first with a Jacob Walsh two-run homer.
Three batters later, Maddox Molony hit an RBI single to put the Ducks ahead 7-0. Oregon added two more in the fifth inning, when it was Mason Neville’s turn to hit a two-run blast over the fence.
With the score 9-0, Oregon State had runners on first and third, and an RBI single scored their only point of the game. And if the Beavers had bothered to post that highlight, I could have shown that to you. But they didn’t, and I can’t.
No matter – the Ducks added four in the bottom of the sixth, starting with Molony’s two-run shot over left center.
With runners on second and third base, Carter Garate smacked a double that scored both.
Oregon was up 13-1, and it didn’t matter that the teams did not score in the final ⅓ of the game, for the rout had already happened.

And Collin Clarke’s feedback after his performance:
