Oregon Ducks Baseball Ends Their Season Against Cal Poly, 10-8
In losing to the Cal Poly Mustangs yesterday, Oregon baseball ended their season during their own NCAA regional with a distinct thud, 10-8.
Grayson Grinsell got the start for Oregon’s game in the elimination round. Grinsell ultimately gave up six runs in the little over six innings that he pitched, and Oregon’s bats were only able to keep pace, holding a slim margin after six innings, 6-5.
The Ducks offense did their part in the top of the seventh inning, putting a pair of solo home runs from Drew Smith and Jeffery Heard to make the score 8-5.
All that Oregon needed was to have their pitching hold on to the lead and win the game. As has been the case all season, it’s a task that Oregon pitching is not capable of fulfilling.
Ian Umlandt giving up four earned runs sunk the Ducks, and Cal Poly’s pitching instead rose to the challenge and held Oregon scoreless for the final two innings as Duck fans watched the inevitable unfold.

Here is what the team had to say after the loss:
Oregon baseball ends their season with a 42-16 record, unable to scratch out a single win in their own regional against powerhouses Utah Valley and Cal Poly. What led us to the ignominious end of Oregon baseball will be the subject of our upcoming season review.
