Oregon Ducks Autzen Home Game Histories
Today we take a look at Autzen home game histories against teams this season not named the Beavers and the Trojans, because we already know about USC and OSU and that is a conversation for a different time.
I have a confession to make, which is that when I first proposed this article, I thought it would be fun to examine the other teams on the home slate – Montana State, Oklahoma State, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Minnesota – and see how they have performed in Autzen Stadium. I figured that I didn’t know the history against any of these teams in Autzen, so it would be fun to take a look. Yeah, it’ll be fun.
It turns out that there’s a reason I don’t know about the history of these teams in Autzen. It’s because of the fact that many of these teams have never played in Autzen Stadium.
In all actuality, that’s not a bad turn of events. Duck fans have a lot to look forward to, seeing home games against a bunch of teams that have never played in Eugene. Alright then, what is our home record against the aforementioned football teams?
Montana State
Our one and only match against the Bobcats was on 9/20/1947. It was the season opener for Oregon that year, and was played at Hayward Field. Oregon won the game 27-14.
Oklahoma State

The Ducks and the Cowboys have never met on each other’s turf. Their one and only match was in 2008 during the Holiday Bowl. Oregon won the game 42-31.. The Ducks came back from a 17-7 halftime deficit, outscoring Oklahoma State 35-14 in the second half.
Indiana

Oregon has played Indiana three times in their history. Their first meeting was on 11/16/1963, when the Ducks were an independent and Len Casanove was the coach. It was a “home” game, but was played in Multnomah Stadium, Portland. Oregon won 28-22, and the winning touchdown was a last-minute pass from Bob Berry to H.D. Murphy.
The other home game was the infamous loss in Autzen on 9/11 2004. Indiana jumped to a 23-0 halftime lead, and the Ducks were not able to catch up.
Many of us (including me) were there that day. After a heady start to the 2000s with teams led by Joey Harrington, Oregon’s loss to the Hoosiers heralded their slide into mediocrity for a few seasons. Now the Hoosiers return, fresh off their record-breaking 2024 season, and this will be one of the premier games of this season.
Wisconsin

The Badgers and Ducks have met seven times since 1977, with two of those games being in Eugene. Their first meeting was in Autzen on 9/24/1977. The Ducks were bad in 1977, with a record of 2-9 (1-6, Pac-8). They lost to Wisconsin 22-10.
Their second meeting in Autzen was the 2001 season opener on 9/1/2001. Oregon won 31-28. That was the year of “Joey Heisman” and he lived up to the billing, leading the Ducks comeback victory when he ran a 1-yard touchdown sneak with 4:03 remaining in the game. Oregon took the thriller, 31-28.
Minnesota

The Golden Gophers have never played on Oregon’s home field, Autzen or otherwise. The Ducks’ first two meetings were losses in Minnesota, in 1961 (7-14) and 1975 (7-10).
Since then, Oregon and Minnesota have traded wins in the Sun Bowl. The Ducks won 24-20 in 1999, and lost 30-31 in 2003.
