Oregon softball and baseball played at home in Eugene, and both continued their winning ways, defeating all comers this last weekend.

Baseball

Oregon Ducks baseball closed Game 4 against the Columbia Lions not with multiple home runs and offensive pinball numbers, but with solid pitching and nary a home run in a Sunday afternoon 7-0 shutout.

Will Sanford pitched six innings in his win, and faced 22 batters while fanning seven, walking two, and giving up one hit. In the final two innings, the Ducks relievers only gave up another hit.

A Ryan Cooney single scored Oregon’s first run in the second inning, and the score remained 1-0 through the seventh inning.

In the seventh, the Lions walked Oregon batters to load the bases, and scored a run when Anson Aroz was hit by a pitch. That was followed by Maddox Molony grounding into a fielder’s choice, putting the Ducks up 3-1 after seven.

In the eighth inning, with Ryan Cooney on second base, Carter Garate knocked a double to right field and scored Cooney.

Mason Neville followed with a single that scored Garate.

Later on, after a double steal that put runners on second and third, Anson Aroz brought them home for the 7-0 final score.

Oregon baseball has a midweek game at PK Park tomorrow, against Utah Tech, and then they head to Irvine for a series against the USC Trojans.

Oregon softball picked up a run-rule win against Loyola Chicago yesterday, winning their 15th game in a row with the 9-1 win.

Rowan Thompson started the game for the Ducks, but got the hook after she walked the first two batters that she faced. Taylour Spencer then took the circle and gave up just one hit on one run while retiring 12 of the last 13 batters that she faced.

Loyola Chicago picked up a home run in the second inning to take an early 1-0 lead.

The Oregon bats started slowly, but finally came to life in the fourth inning. With the bases loaded, a throwing error scored two, and then Kendre Luschar stole home to put Oregon up 3-1.

Dezianna Patmon opened up the bottom of the fifth with a home run, and then four batters later Kendre Luschar drew blood again with a 3-run homer.

The Ducks were not done, and continued their rally.

Then an RBI single by Kai Luschar ended the game.

Oregon softball continues their winning ways, and will be looking for more thai coming weekend, as they host the Jane Sanders Classic in Eugene. The competition steps up considerably, highlighted by the arrival of the #8 Florida State Seminoles. Also on the slate will be a Saturday game against the Oregon State Beavers.
