Oregon Basketball: Bracketology Update – Addicted To Quack

Women’s Team – NCAA Tournament

Since last week’s update the Ducks; won a hard fought game on the road against Penn State, had a comeback bid against #9 Ohio State fall short, and then comfortably beat Purdue at home.

These 3 games all went about as expected so my intuition suggested that the Women would still be projected to be around an 8 or 9 seed as they were last week. According to ESPN the women’s resume has slipped ever so slightly as they are now currently projected as a 10 seed and one of the last 4 teams that would automatically be in the field without having to play a play-in game.

The Women’s next big test is this Sunday when they take on Iowa at home. Iowa received a vote in the most recent AP poll.

Women’s Team – Big Ten Tournament

The Women are only 7 games into their conference schedule with 11 more games to be played so it is still very early to be looking at Big Ten Conference tournament seeding. However, the first objective in conference play this season is to actually officially punch a ticket to the Big Ten conference tournament. Because this conference is stupidly large only 15 of the 18 teams will play in the conference tournament this March.

Thanks to last night’s win over Purdue the magic number for clinching a spot in the Big Ten tournament is now 9 meaning that any combination of, 9 Oregon wins and Purdue losses, will officially punch a ticket to Indianapolis.

Once the Ducks have secured a spot in the tournament the next Big Ten seed line to look out for would be trying to finish in the Top 7 during league play. This is because the Top 7 teams in the regular season will all be fully rested ahead of their first game at the Big Ten tournament and play against a team that played the day before.

Men’s Team – NCAA Tournament

Since last weeks Bracketology update the men won two hard fought games on the road to avoid taking a hit to their resume. Neither Ohio State or Penn State are ranked though so the Ducks resume since last week is more or less the same.

Over at Bracketmatrix the Ducks are currently projected as the final 2 seed (one spot up from last week) with various bracketologists having them ranked anywhere from being a 2 to a 5 seed.

The Ducks have a big opportunity to boost their resume this Saturday when they take on #17 Purdue at Matthew Knight Arena.

The men are only 6 games into their 20 game conference schedule therefore it is to early even for me to start looking at magic numbers and seeding for the conference tournament. But keep in mind that the conference tournament structure is the exact same for the men as it is for the women so stay tuned for when I begin providing updates for the Big Ten Conference tournament.
