Men’s Basketball: NBA Summer League Roundup
With the NBA Summer League wrapping up yesterday, I thought it would be a good time to look at the Oregon alum who participated this year and see how they performed.
First up we’ve got N’Faly Dante, who plays for the Houston Rockets. N’Faly played in three games, seeing the floor for just under 16 minutes per contest. In those minutes, he averaged 6.7 points, 3 rebounds and just under a block and a steal. With the Rockets seemingly going all in to contend this season by trading for Kevin Durant, it seems fairly unlikely that Dante will see the floor very much this coming year. But injuries are unfortunately a thing, so you never know.
Next, we’ve got Brandon Angel, who suited up for the Phoenix Suns in three games this summer. Angel played around 11 minutes a game, while putting up averages of 5.3 point, 3.3 rebounds, shooting 58% from the floor. The Suns roster is a mess right now, in my opinion, so there’s a chance Angel could crack the roster, but most likely he will end up on a two-way contract or playing overseas this year.
Up next is Mr. TJ Bamba, playing in 5 games for the Brooklyn Nets, playing just over 16 minutes per game. In the time, Bamba averaged 4.6 points, 2.8 rebounds, 0.8 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. The Nets roster is, to put it kindly, lacking. There’s a very real chance Bamba could see the floor for Brooklyn at some point this season, due to his experience and above average rebounding instincts for a guard.
Lastly, we’ve got Keeshawn Barthelemy. KB saw action in just two games for the Portland Trail Blazers, but never really got a chance to perform, playing an average of just 4.6 minutes between the two games. He did not register a counting stat, aside from picking up a foul in his first game, and a couple missed shots between the two. He might get a two-way contract and spend the bulk of the season in the G-League, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets released altogether.
Which alum do you think will have the best pro career? Personally, I think if Dante can get on the floor, he could be a big-time energy guy/second string center for a contending team, or a decent starting center for a less than contending roster. But what do y’all think? Let us know!
And, as always, ‘Sco Ducks
