March on Salem, 1983 | Vintage Portland


The We Still Have a Dream: Jobs, Peace and Freedom march on Salem was held on August 27, 1983 to honor the 20th anniversary of the historic 1963 March on Washington, known as the March for Jobs and Freedom. Over 400 people attended the event, which coordinated transportation from both Portland and Eugene. Speakers included Ronnie Herndon, co-chairman of the Portland Black United Front.
