Game Recap: Oregon Spring Game


Fans got their firt look at new faces and rising talent in the Spring Game today at Autzen Stadium.

First Quarter:

Austin Novosad led a great opening drive for the white team, finding Dakorien Moore deep down the right sideline for a big gain. Moore made an incredible grab despite tight coverage from Theran Johnson. A few plays later, Jayden Limar burst up the middle for a 31-yard touchdown. 7-0, Fighting Ducks

Dante Moore and the Combat Ducks answered with a promising drive of their own, highlighted by a 25-yard strike to Kenyon Sadiq. However, they stalled out and had to settle for a 47-yard field goal from freshman Gage Huryich. 7-3, Fighting Ducks

The white team strung together a few nice plays, with Da’Jaun Riggs and Jamari Johnson standing out, but they couldn’t sustain the drive and punted it away. Jay Harris picked up seven yards on first down, but two straight incompletions from Dante Moore forced the Combat Ducks to punt it right back.

Second Quarter:

Luke Moga took over at quarterback and led a strong drive down to the 10-yard line. The Fighting Ducks couldn’t punch it in, but Andrew Boyle knocked through a field goal to extend the lead. 10-3, Fighting Ducks

Brock Thomas led a Combat Ducks drive that included a fourth-down conversion, but it ultimately ended with a punt after Elijah Rushing got a third-down sack. Luke Moga looked sharp slinging the ball around, but another promising drive for the white team ended in a punt.

Blake Purchase made his presence known with back-to-back sacks of Akili Smith Jr., forcing a Combat Ducks punt that Ross James shanked for just 13 yards — setting up a prime opportunity for the Fighting Ducks. The Fighting Ducks couldn’t capitalize, and Atticus Sappington missed a 46-yard field goal attempt to end the half.

Third Quarter:

Redshirt freshman Ify Obidegwu forced a fumble from Jay Harris, and Blake Purchase scooped it up and ran it back for a defensive touchdown.17-3, Fighting Ducks

Noah Whittington had a few solid runs, but another third-down sack stalled the Combat Ducks again, leading to yet another punt. Dante Moore continued to struggle. Another drive, another punt for the Combat Ducks. Copy, paste.

Finally, Dante Moore’s squad broke through. A beautiful throw to Jurrion Dickey down the sideline set up Jay Harris, who punched it in for a touchdown to close the gap. 17-10, Fighting Ducks

Fourth Quarter:

It would be mostly defensive highlight before the Combat Ducks would find their offensive rhythm in the final stanza. Couple a few beautiful downfield catches with a field goal to close the gap before Jay Harris added 6 points on a 1-yd run to take the lead with just over 2 minutes left. 20-17, Combat Ducks

The Fighting Ducks were not done answering right back with a Dillon Gresham TD from Luke Moga. Time would run out on the attempted game-winning drive. 24-20 Fighting Ducks.
