Duck Baseball 2025 Roster Outlook
The Oregon Ducks baseball program continues its impressive upward trajectory under head coach Mark Wasikowski. After back-to-back NCAA Super Regional appearances and consecutive 40-win seasons for the first time since 2013-2014, the Ducks have established themselves as a rising force in college baseball. Last season, Oregon claimed victory in the Santa Barbara Regional before falling to NCAA runner-up Texas A&M in the College Station Super Regional.
The national buzz around the Ducks is palpable as the preseason polls roll in. D1Baseball ranked Oregon at No. 12 overall, up from No. 15 in Perfect Game’s preseason rankings. Oregon joins Nebraska as one of only two Big Ten teams in D1Baseball’s top 25, further solidifying its position as a powerhouse program.
Key Departures
The Ducks face the challenge of replacing several impact players lost to the MLB Draft, including:
- Isaac Ayon (Los Angeles Dodgers)
- Bryce Boettcher (Houston Astros, also excelling on the Ducks football team)
- Brock Moore (Seattle Mariners)
- RJ Gordon (New York Mets)
- Bennett Thompson (Cleveland Guardians)
Additionally, Oregon saw a few players enter the transfer portal, though these departures included limited contributors from last season.
New Faces and Returning Stars
Despite significant losses, the Ducks reloaded with a top-10 transfer portal class headlined by right-handed pitcher Jason Reitz (6’11” standout from the Cape Cod League), outfielder Parker Stinson, and left-handed pitcher Sam Boyle. These additions bolster an already talented roster featuring seven returning starters on offense and key contributors on the mound.
Returning Standouts
- Maddox Molony, INF
- The highly touted sophomore impressed as a freshman, hitting .315 with 10 home runs and 31 RBIs in 43 games. Molony is expected to take on a larger offensive role following Bryce Boettcher’s departure.
- Grayson Grinsell, LHP
- A breakout star in 2024, Grinsell posted a 7-2 record with 99 strikeouts and a 4.08 ERA over 79.1 innings. As a junior, he will anchor the Ducks’ rotation and look to solidify his draft stock.
- Mason Neville, OF
- Neville’s power at the plate shone last season with 16 home runs and 43 RBIs. Heading into his junior year, he’s poised for an even bigger impact in the lineup.
- Drew Smith, INF
- Smith dazzled as a freshman, earning ABCA/Rawlings second-team All-West Region honors and setting a program record with hits in his first 20 career games.
- Austin Anderson, RHP
- A preseason second-team All-American by the NCBWA, Anderson delivered a stellar junior campaign with a 0.66 ERA and 39 strikeouts over 27.1 innings.
- Carter Garate, INF
- Garate started all 60 games in 2024 and will bring veteran leadership to the infield, providing stability as the Ducks integrate new talent.
