Commissioner Charles Jordan, 1976 | Vintage Portland
Charles Jordan was the first African American man to serve on Portland’s City Council. He was sworn in in 1974, and was re-elected twice – serving until 1984. He would also go on to become the Director of Portland Parks and Recreation for 14 years.
