Camara Finishes Ninth in Defensive Player of the Year Voting

The NBA has announced that Portland Trail Blazers forward Toumani Camara finished ninth place in voting for Defensive Player of the Year, while Cleveland Cavaliers center Evan Mobley won the award.

A panel of 100 members of the media from around the world voted on their top three defenders from the 2024-2025 season. A first-place vote is worth five points, a second-place vote earns three points and a third-place vote brings in one point.

Camara received one second-place vote and one third-place vote for Defensive Player of the Year, earning four total points to finish ninth. The second-year forward registered 0.6 blocks and 1.5 steals per game and led the NBA with 31 charges drawn, nine more than the runner-up. He was also in the top 10 with 60 loose balls recovered. His quick feet and ability to guard multiple positions was on peak display this past season, and another strong showing next season on a more successful team could see him improve on ninth place.

Mobley was this season’s clear winner, earning 35 first-place votes, 30 second-place votes and 20 third-place votes for a total of 285 points. Atlanta Hawks guard Dyson Daniels was second with 197 points followed by perennial defensive stalwart Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors, who finished with 154 points.
