Blazers’ Jerami Grant Out, Deni Avdija Questionable vs. Pelicans
Portland Trail Blazers forward Jerami Grant will miss his fifth consecutive game due to a face contusion when Portland plays the New Orleans Pelicans Wednesday evening on the road, the organization announced on social media.
Portland forward Deni Avdija is also questionable to play due to a right wrist sprain, while Blazers wing Matisse Thybulle is still out with a right ankle sprain.
INJURY REPORT 1/8 @ NOP:
OUT
Jerami Grant (Face Contusion)
Matisse Thybulle (R Ankle Sprain)
QUESTIONABLE
Deni Avdija (R Wrist Sprain)
Grant sustained the injury during Portland’s 126-122 home win over the Dallas Mavericks on Dec. 28. The veteran forward’s absence has led to Avdija’s recent reinsertion into the starting lineup. If Avdija is also unable to go Wednesday, this could mean Blazers second-year forward Kris Murray gets the starting nod alongside Portland forward Toumani Camara.
Murray has seen a jump in playing time since Grant went out. He has registered over 20 minutes in Portland’s previous two games, marking the first time this season Murray has played over 20 minutes in two consecutive games. In 27 minutes against the Detroit Pistons Monday, Murray provided 11 points on 4-7 shooting, four rebounds and three assists.
The Blazers tip off against the Pelicans Wednesday at 5 p.m. Pacific.
