Baseball Recap: Oregon Ducks @ Ohio State Buckeyes Game 3

Your #10 Oregon Ducks wrapped up a 3-game series against the Ohio State Buckeyes on Saturday afternoon, in the 2nd game of a double-header. The Ducks got things going early with a solo shot to right-center by Anson Aroz, to give Oregon a 1-0 lead in the top of the 2nd inning, but Ohio State would quickly counter with back-to-back doubles, pushing three runs across, giving them a 3-1 lead, and would add another run to their tally in the bottom half of the 3rd inning, on yet another RBI double, stretching their lead to 4-1 after 3 innings.

The Ducks would answer back, though, on a three-run blast from Maddox Molony in the top of the 4th inning and score a run on a throwing error by Ohio State pitcher Nik Copenhaver in the 6th, giving Oregon a 5-4 lead. But unfortunately, the Buckeyes would answer back as well, tying the game in the bottom of the 8th inning on a sacrifice fly to left field, and then connecting on a 3-run bomb of their own, giving them a commanding 8-5 lead going into the final inning of play. Maddox Molony would do his best to get things going with two outs, hitting a solo home run over the left field wall (his second HR of the game, and 5th of the series), but to no avail, as Ohio State would close it out and win the game 8-6, and the series 2-1.

Overall, not the best weekend for the Ducks, who lost their first series of the season. But the offense was there, most of the time, which is a good sign considering how quiet the bats were in their last series vs Rutgers. I’ll just say this: it is absolutely NOT time to hit any sort of “panic button”. This team has shown they can flat out play. It’s just a matter of putting everything together at the same time. And they’ve got a solid month and a half left of the regular season to do so.
