A Comic Celebrating Portland’s Dyke Hoops Basketball Community

A Comic Celebrating Portland’s Dyke Hoops Basketball Community

Love Letters is Portland Monthly’s quarterly series from nonfiction comics creator and editor Shay Mirk celebrating the parties and places that shape our city.

Shay Mirk recently hit the court with the folks behind Dyke Hoops, a weekly game of queer-friendly pickup basketball. For decades, queer intramural sports leagues, clubs, and meetups have served a vital role in community building—a place to make friends, develop relationships, and connect during periods of hardship. Now that the weather has improved, Dyke Hoops meets at 11am on Saturdays at Irving Park, but check Instagram for any potential weather-related changes.) —Brooke Jackson-Glidden
