Oregon Ducks Baseball Sweeps The Huskies
The Oregon Ducks survived a Washington Huskies comeback attempt and swept the Huskies with a 5-3 Game 3 win yesterday in Eugene.
There were times where it was not pretty, but Oregon starter Jason Reitz pitched six shutout innings, and Oregon’s offense backed him up early with the long ball.
On the first pitch thrown to him, leadoff hitter Mason Neville sent the ball over the fence.
Anson Aroz was the first hitter in the second inning, and did the same with the second pitch thrown to him.
Maddox Molony followed Aroz with a double, and Chase Meggers brought them home to put the Ducks up 4-0.
The Ducks added a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning to score their fifth run. After that the bats were quiet, and Oregon’s offense went down in order in the sixth, seventh, and eighth inning.
In the meantime, Washington’s offense got to Oregon’s relief pitching and made the latter third of the game somewhat tense. In the seventh inning, the Huskies tagged Ian Umlandt for a two-run shot over the left field fence.
In the eighth inning, Cole Stokes threw a wild pitch with the bases loaded and Washington scored their final run.
The Ducks did not need to go to bat in the ninth inning, and that was the ball game. Here is your final line:
