Oregon Ducks Diamond Sunday Recap

Baseball vs. USC

Oregon baseball ended their first Big-10 series yesterday with a sweep of the USC Trojans, 5-3.

Will Sanford got the start for the Ducks, pitched a solid five innings, and then ran into trouble in the sixth inning before being relieved. Michael Meckna and Julien Hernandez came in as middle relievers before Ryna Featherston closed the game out for the save.

Oregon got on the board in the second inning with RBI singles by Ryan Cooney and Carter Garate.

The Ducks added another run in the fourth inning when Cooney hit a sacrifice fly to increase Oregon’s lead to 3-0. USC evened the score in the sixth inning when Sanford walked a batter, and then the Trojans hit a home run. Meckna came in for relief and an RBI groundout tied the score, 3-3.

The Ducks immediately responded in the top of the seventh. Mason Neville hit a home run to lead off the inning, and then Maddox Molony hit an RBI single with two outs to give Oregon a 5-3 lead.

The Trojans and Ducks relievers kept the opposition off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game, bringing us to our final score.

Meckna picked up today’s win and Featherston earned the save. Here is your final line:

Coach Wazikowski had a few comments after Oregon swept USC for the first time on the road.

Oregon baseball now has a 14-2 record and has won 11 in a row. They turn it around fairly quickly back in Eugene, with midweek games against Grand Canyon on Tuesday and Wednesday before hosting Minnesota for a three-game series this coming weekend.

Softball vs. Florida State

After Saturday’s loss to the Oregon State Beavers, the Ducks put that behind them and played another stellar game against Florida State, taking yesterday’s match 1-0.

Elise Sokolsky pitched a complete-game shutout, allowing two hits with 5 Ks and no walks.

Ashtyn Danley started in the circle for the Seminoles, and pitched three innings before being relieved by Jazzy Francik. Francik ran into trouble in the fifth inning, with the Ducks hitting a couple of singles to put a runner in scoring position and Braiesey Rosa hitting a single of her own for what would prove to be Oregon’s go-ahead run.

Danley came back to the circle for the Seminoles and FSU kept the damage to one run, but with Sokolsky’s excellent pitching that would prove to be enough to win the game, 1-0.

Softball vs. Abilene Christian

Lyndsey Grein picked up the start against ACU, and allowed only one hit in five innings of play before being relieved by Elise Sokolsky for the final two innings. Oregon picked up a run apiece in the third, fifth, and sixth innings and defeated the Wildcats 3-1.

ACU’s Lina Russo pitched the entire game for the Wildcats, allowing three run on four hits with 3 Ks and 3 BB.3

Braiesey Rosa initiated the scoring for the Ducks in the third inning with a sacrifice fly.

Rosa followed that with a solo home run in the fifth inning.

Oregon scored their final run in the sixth with a perfectly placed bunt.

Head coach Melyssa Lombardi had this to say after Sunday’s games:

Braiesey Rosa had this to say after her big day in both matches:

Ducks softball is now 23-2 with a couple of huge wins over the Seminoles this last weekend. After spending the last two weekends in Eugene, Oregon travels to Seattle this coming weekend for their first Big-10 series against the 19-7 Washington Huskies.
