Oregon Baseball & Softball: Sunday Recaps

Softball

The Oregon Ducks softball team looked to wrap up an overall successful weekend at the Littlewood classic in Phoenix with a win against Belmont early Sunday morning.

Emma Cox got the Ducks on the board with a 2 run bomb in the first inning to give the Ducks the early 2-0 lead.

Thanks to the performance Lyndsey Grein would put together in the circle this first inning homer would be enough for the Ducks to secure a win on Sunday. However the Ducks bats would give her a little more run support when Stefini Ma’ake was able to get an RBI single to put the Ducks up 3-0 in the 3rd inning and Rylee Mccoy also went yard in the 4th.

For the day Lyndsey Grein would strike out 12 of the 17 batters she faced and took a no-hitter into the 6th. In the end she would nearly go the distance while only allowing one hit and walking one batter for a near complete game and a truly terrific day.

The Ducks were able to secure a 4-1 win to push there record to 10-1 and their overall run differential to +86.

Here is what Lyndsey Grein and Emma Cox had to say after the game.

The Ducks are back in action on Thursday when they take on Cal and Tennessee at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic.

Baseball

After getting a win in the season opener and then splitting the double header Saturday the Ducks were back in action against Toledo on Sunday hoping to secure the series win in the first series of the season.

On the mound for the Ducks making his collegiate debut was true freshmen Will Sanford. After recording his first career strikeout he got some helps from his infielders as they were able to turn two in the first.

After Mason Neville was able to drive in a run in the first he barely missed out on a HR in the second when his deep drive went off the top of the wall in right center. The solid knock was still enough to score a run for Oregon and the Ducks were up 4-0 after 2.

Will Sanford was able to give the Ducks 4 really solid innings of work only allowing one run on 2 hits and 3 walks while striking out 6.

Kellan Knox came into the game for the Ducks in the 5th inning and picked right up where Will Sanford left off again with some help from his defense.

In the 8th inning the Rockets got a true Oregon welcome as the skies opened up and the liquid sunshine began to really come down on P.K Park. But as we all know the Ducks flourish in the rain and the defense once again made a great play to help out their pitcher.

In the bottom half of the 8th Maddox Maloney kept swinging his hot bat as he hit his 3rd homer of the year and picked up his 3rd extra base hit of the day to extend the Ducks lead even further to 6-1.

That would be enough for the Ducks as Oregon was able to secure the Sunday W 6-1 to take the series with 3 of 4 wins against Toledo.

The combined final pitching line for the 4 Oregon pitchers was excellent

Over the 4 games Oregon had a very impressive run differential of +19 in what was mostly a successful opening weekend.

The Ducks will be back in action next weekend when the Rhode Island Rams come to Eugene for another 4 game weekend series.
