Oregon Basketball: Bracketology Update – Addicted To Quack
Women – NCAA Tournament
Since the last bracketology update the Oregon Ducks women’s basketball team has beaten two middle of the pack Big Ten teams at home. Iowa 50-49 and then Indiana 54-47.
And while these weren’t big marquee wins for a team somewhat near the bubble of the tournament it was key for Oregon to avoid taking a bad loss and incrementally improve their resume. ESPN now has the Ducks as a 9 seed. Oregon’s tournament spot and seed is really going to take shape down the stretch now as 6 of Oregon’s final 9 regular season games are against teams that received votes in last weeks AP poll with the next game coming this Thursday when they hit the road to take on Michigan State.
Women – B1G Tournament
Oregon is currently 7th in the B1G with a record of 6-3. As mentioned in the last update the first goal of the B1G season is to clinch a spot in the conference tournament as not every team in this behemoth conference is going to be playing in Indianapolis in early March. Oregon is in no danger of missing the conference tournament as 15 of the 18 teams will still make the tournament and 3 teams in the B1G have yet to register a conference win. But for those counting Oregon’s magic number to officially clinch a spot is now down to 6, meaning any combination of 6 Oregon wins and Northwestern losses will make it official.
Oregon’s next goal is to ensure they are a Top 7 team in the conference to ensure they get one bye as well as guarantee that their first game will come against a team that played the day previous and they will be rested. As mentioned above Oregon is currently 7th in the conference, to keep this position games against Michigan State, Michigan, Maryland, Minnesota, Nebraska, and two games against Washington will be crucial.
Men – NCAA Tournament
Since the last update Oregon’s resume has taken a bit of a hit with losses to Purdue and Minnesota and only a win against Washington to counter act those losses. As a result Oregon is down to the consensus final 3 seed at Bracketmatrix. The Ducks will look to get back on track this Thursday when they head to LA to take on UCLA and get revenge for their buzzer beating loss from earlier this season.
Men – B1G Tournament
Oregon is currently tied for 6th in the B1G with a 5-4 record. The men play an additional 2 conference games as compared to the Women so they are not quite half way through their conference slate yet. However the Men are in a similar position as the women when it comes to the conference tournament bracket. They are in no danger of missing the tournament and in thick competition to secure a Top 7 spot. Thursday’s game against UCLA will be crucial for getting a Top 7 spot as UCLA is one of the teams Oregon is tied with for 6th in the conference.
