Property Watch: A Boho Cabin with a Yurt, Sauna, and Indoor Hammock

What started as a cozy cabin on one acre in Corbett has since been expanded into a boho retreat of sorts, thanks to the addition of a yurt, barrel sauna with surprise views, and a hot tub. This is all joined together by decking and pathways, surrounded by trees and birdsong, with the sound of a creek running by, making nature as much, if not more, of a feature. Just what you want for a quintessential cabin getaway.

Built in 1991, the cabin has 1,121 square feet divvied into an open floor plan on the main, two bedrooms, and one bathroom. Inside, the vibe is airy, with vaulted wood ceilings and pale wood floors, joined by walls, railings, cabinets, and exposed beams all painted white.

The living room has a wood-burning stove—a cabin must—while around the corner a full kitchen caters to all seasons, from summer barbeque support to cozy winter meal prep. This floor has one bedroom and a shared bathroom; upstairs, the second lofted bedroom has its own hangout space with a hammock.

Out the sliding glass doors, the wraparound deck leads to the side of the building with the sauna, or down the steps to the rest of the outbuildings. About that sauna, it presents as a typical barrel, but there’s a cool fisheye window off the back that reveals a stellar forest view.

Nearby, a 24-foot-yurt offers a spacious spot for a studio, office, or guests. A hot tub behind a privacy screen and a firepit in a gravel patio complete the retreat experience. Two more outbuildings, both sheds for storage and tinkering, as well as a tall fence lining one side of the property, round out the scene.
And while it might seem like there’s a lot going on here, it makes for a peaceful weekend break from the city. (Downtown Portland is just a 30-minute drive away.) But maybe stay out a little longer and enjoy everything the Columbia River Gorge has to offer, from the Historic Columbia River Highway and “Waterfall Alley” to the tasty treats at Troutdale’s Sugarpine Drive-In.
