Damian Lillard to become Weber State Basketball General Manager

Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard will become Weber State University basketball program’s new general manager, Lillard announced to his sixth Alumni Classic event at the school today.

According to Lillard:

We also wanted to announce that I’m going to be taking over the general manager role of [Weber State’s] basketball program… obviously, my relationship with Coach Duft, with this program, means a lot to me. Seeing a successful program means a lot to me. So it was something that we came up with.

I felt like I could do a lot to help the program continue to be successful, to help the players… individually continue to grow their careers past college. It’s something that I’m passionate about. All the resources that I have, a lot of the opportunity that I’d be able to create for the program… is something I’m excited about.

The news was reported by Fox 13 Salt Lake City.

Lillard spent four years at Weber State from 2008-2011 before being drafted sixth overall by the Portland Trail Blazers in 2012. In his final season at Weber State, Lillard averaged 24.5 points, 4 dimes, and 5 boards on 46.7% shooting (41% from deep).
