Devin Booker Agrees to Record-Breaking Extension
Devin Booker and the Phoenix Suns are setting the new per-year max extension record with their two-year $145 million contract agreement. Shams Charania reported the news, citing CAA’s Jessica Holtz and Melvin Booker.
The record was previously held by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who signed his $71.25 million average per season extension with the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday. Booker’s extension is worth $72.5 million per year, and he is now under contract with the Suns for five years, through the 2029-2030 season. Booker is owed a staggering $316 million for those upcoming seasons.
Booker has played his entire career in Phoenix after being drafted with the 13th pick in the 2015 NBA draft. With this new extension, his third with Phoenix, he reaffirms his commitment to the Suns. He is the franchise’s points leader with 16,452 and has averaged over 25 points for seven seasons in a row. Last season he averaged 25.6 points per game. He’s a two-time Olympic gold medalist, four-time NBA All-Star and two-time All-NBA selection.
Phoenix is coming off a disappointing season, finishing with a 36-46 record while having the NBA’s highest ever payroll. The Suns will look to reset after trading Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets, but they will do it by building around their loyal superstar.
