Big Ten Women’s Lacrosse Review

Big Ten Lacrosse Review

Today we take a glance at how the B1G teams performed in 2025, while speculating on who might return in 2026.

Oregon 6-10, 0-8 B1G (9th)

While the move to the Big Ten may have aided the records of some Oregon teams (looking at you, baseball), it did no favors whatsoever for Oregon lacrosse. The Ducks are in rebuilding mode and continue to be. I recap the Oregon season – such as it is – here.

Ohio State 8-7, 1-7 B1G (8th)

2024: 8-9, 1-5 B1G (6th)

The Buckeyes had the majority of their points scored by seven players, led by Sr. Brynn Ammerman, who was far and away the assists leader as well. Three of the seven graduate, but returners include their #2 scorer, Kate Tyack. Jr. Jocelyn Torres started at goalkeeper every game in 2025, and should be back next year.

Ohio State, like the rest at the bottom of the conference, can’t really compete against the top dogs and that is not likely to change next year.

Rutgers 8-10, 2-6 B1G (7th)

2024: 8-10, 1-5 (7th)

Rutgers scoring was led by Jr. Lily Dixon and Sr. Alexa Corbin. They headed a group of 10 principle scorers, seven of whom were underclassmen (mostly freshmen) that should be back next season. Gr. Lexie Coldiron took care of the net all season and Rutgers didn’t use anyone else to any extent, so that position is up for grabs in 2026.

USC 10-7, 3-5 B1G (6th)

The Trojans had eight scorers in double digits, with R-Sr. Isabelle Vitale and Sr. Maddie Dora each scoring 2-3 times the number of goals than the other leaders scored. Five return for the 2026 season. Goalkeeping was fairly evenly divided between So. Annie Shields and Fr. Charlotte Morton.

Penn State 7-9, 5-3 B1G (T-3rd)

2024: 11-8, 4-2 B1G (T-3rd)

PSU had nine leading scorers, led by Jr. Erika Ho. Ho returns with three other scoring leaders. Penn State returns So. Sydney Manning at the net, so they should be in good shape there.

Michigan 13-7, 5-3 B1G (T-3rd)

2024: 16-4, 4-2 B1G (T-3rd)

Michigan had nine players score in double digits, led by Sr. Jill Smith. Their top three scorers all graduate, and the Wolverines only return three of the nine next season. They also lose their primary goalie, Erin O’Grady.

The Wolverines made it to the NCAA tournament, winning their first-round match against Akron, but then lost to Northwestern

Johns Hopkins 13-7, 5-3 (T-3rd)

2024: 12-8, 4-2 B1G (5th)

JHU had 10 players score in double digits, with the scoring primarily concentrated among the top four, led by Jr. Ava Angello. Angello and only three others return next season. JHU returns their goalkeeper, Jr. Morgan Giardina.

Johns Hopkins was in the NCAA tournament this season as an 8-seed, defeating Liberty in the first round before losing to Princeton.

Maryland 15-6, 7-1 B1G (2nd)

2024: 14-6, 4-2 B1G (T-3rd)

The Terps had 10 players scoring in double digits, and all scored 20 or more points on the season, led by Jr. Kori Edmondson. They don’t lose much in returning seven of the ten. They return their outstanding goalie in So. JJ Suriano.

The Terps went into the NCAA tournament as the 6-seed. They beat Fairfield before losing to Penn in the second round.

Maryland is one of those teams that reloads instead of rebuilding, and they’ll be vying for the #1 spot in the conference next year.

Northwestern 19-3, 8-0 B1G (1st)

2024: 18-3, 5-1 B1G (1st)

Northwestern is led in scoring by Jr. Madison Taylor. Taylor scored an eye-popping 158 points this season, which is about double over the highest scorer on any other B1G team. (Oregon’s highest scorer was Bri Carrasquillo with 40 points). She led nine players scoring in double digits. Taylor and three others return in 2026. The Wildcats lose Gr. GK Delaney Sweitzer.

Northwestern entered the tournament as the #3 seed. They beat #2 Boston College in the semis, but lost to North Carolina in the Championship round.

Northwestern is perennially the team to beat in the B1G, and that’s not going to change soon.

The pecking order for women’s lacrosse next season will likely be the same next season as it has been in season of late. Maryland and Northwestern will battle it out for 1st place; a position that has been all NW’s lately. We’ll have the battle for third place, which is a contest for the middle of the pack. Then, we’ll have the rest of the teams. This hierarchy is not likely to change in 2026.
