6713 SE Holgate: Kern Park Flower Shoppe, 1983
Kern Park Flower Shoppe is the oldest Japanese florist in Portland. The business started as wholesale greenhouses, opened in 1915 by Sukemon and Shin Itami. Shin passed away while incarcerated at the Minidoka Camp in Idaho during WWII. Sukemon passed shortly after returning to Portland in 1945. It was their son Shigeo and wife Fumi that worked to ensure the Itami legacy still stands today.
