15 Portland Restaurant and Bar Openings to Know for February

March 1

BOISE — Von Ebert Brewing is debuting its massive new flagship brewery in the former Ecliptic Brewing space. Von Ebert says the new facility will let it increase production from 4,000 barrels per year to over 20,000, and its beer should soon be in grocery stores across the Northwest. The taproom will include a patio, and food will be provided by Harlan Poterfield, of HarBQ, at least some of the time.

February 28

NORTHEAST — Fine dining fans have a new spot to try in Lansdowne Social, a restaurant helmed by chef Martin Pfeifer and maitre d’ Owen Perry. It specializes in a $75 five-course dinner served at a communal table and afternoon tea, the meal with the little sandwiches and everything.

February 27

LAURELHURST — A new barbecue food cart is opening at the Flying Tortoise pod. Called Blasphemy BBQ, it is owned by Jenny and Chris Whaley, Bridgetown Bites reports, the former of whom ran famed New York barbecue spot Hill Country. Jenny told Bridgetown Bites that their food is “inspired by the traditions of regional American barbecue, with flavors that reflect Portland’s irreverent and whimsical food scene and attitude.”

February 24

BEAVERTON — Paul Ceserani, who owns Jim and Patty’s Coffee and Spielman Bagels, wrote Eater Portland to say that the Beaveton Jim and Patty’s location is now a Spielman. “We didn’t have a lot of time or cash, but we spruced it up with some paint, flooring and tile,” Ceserani said in an email. “We’ll have the same menu as our other Spielman locations but will also offer a couple of the Jim & Patty’s favorites (like Pig Newtons and Biscuits – which Spielman is producing anyway).”

February 15

HAWTHORNE — Steeplejack Brewing Company and Harder Day Coffee have taken over a former Bank of America and turned it into a food truck pod, reports Portland Business Journal.

February 14

DOWNTOWN — Hachi, a new izakaya that features yakitori, sashimi and sukiyaki, just opened its doors on SW 12th Avenue.

February 7

NORTHWEST — Gabriel Pascuzzi, a former Eater Portland Chef of the Year and Top Chef contestant, has officially turned his Mama Bird restaurant into Bistecca Wood Fire Steakhouse, with all-new decor.

February 4

SELLWOOD-MORELAND — Monty’s Red Sauce, the latest project from restaurateur Adam Berger, has just opened. This restaurant is proudly Italian American — big portions, spaghetti and meatballs, you get it.

February 2

DOWNTOWN — The long, long awaited Flock food hall has finally opened inside the Ritz-Carlton. It’s a full-circle moment for the address, which was once a food cart pod before the hotel was built and is now a kind of fancy evolution of a food cart pod.

February 1

HAWTHORNE — The vegan fast food pop-up Gnarlys now has a new home inside the bar Afterlife, and is serving from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Gnarlys owner Chris Hudson told Eater Portland that he’s still keeping the location inside Swan Dive.

BOISE — A new sports bar called Kooks has replaced the old Pickles Public House. According to Bridgetown Bites, it’ll offer typical pub food but made by people who are “more chefs than line cooks,” as co-owner Chris Mateja put it.

January 28

TIGARD — 503 Hibachi, a popular food truck in Aloha serving (obviously) Japanese-style hibachi cooking, has opened a second location in Tigard.

January 22

BEAVERTON — BB.Q Chicken, a Korean fried chicken chain with roots in Seoul, is now open in Beaverton. Confusingly, BBQ stands for “Best of the Best Quality,” in case you were wondering.

January 19

KING — Ollini, the long-awaited spunky younger sibling of renown bakery Cafe Olli, has arrived. It’s a smaller version of Olli that focuses on grab-and-go options like coffee, pastries, salads, and sandwiches.

January 18

BUCKMAN — A promising new bar called Panther Club has opened in the old Trifecta space, reports Bridgetown Bites. The kitchen is run by Robert Baki, formerly of Ned Ludd, and is serving classic steakhouse fare, including “the last $20 steak in the West.” The drinks are the brainchild of owner Nate “Theo” Theobald, who specializes in an Oaxacan Old-Fashioned, a riff on a painkiller, and a margarita with fennel notes.
